I was grown with cats and have never had a dog. And in spite of this fact I watch The Dog Whisperer sincerely and the last year bought the book which was called "How Dogs Think." There was that I have found out from "Whisperer" by Cesar Millan. He was preparing me for my first puppy: Dogs thirst for rules, borders and restrictions from their leader of a package. After that you can show them a little bit of your affection, love and care.
I really have a dog in my dreams, but nevertheless he was failed in a real life. I want myself to get ready for the dog psychologically.
I’m very fascinated with Year of the Dog and how its author and director Mike White and brilliant star Molly Shannon brought an unhappy glow and realism of regeneration to the main character, Peggy. Peggy has nobody in this world but she is not a lonely person because she has Pencil. Peggy has a good work although she used to work with an anal-retentive bug of a boss Robin (Josh Pais). Also she is working with her friend Layla (Regina King), which only wish is to make her boyfriend to marry her. Peggy has a beautiful house, a brother and sister-in-law (Laura Dern) absorbed by their children. Peggy cherishes delightful "Pencil". Peggy doesn’t feel any love and attention of somebody but only dog, living with her, gives Peggy the emotional support which she hasn’t found in her private life. Peggy understands the fact that she may never be dating with someone, or have even a boyfriend or a husband.
Once at night the Pencil goes outside in the garden of the neighbors and dies there! Desperately, Peggy considers the neighbor, hunting on the admirer Al (John C. Reilly), could be anyhow crucial. Searching for the Pencil at the vet, Peggy collides with Newt (Peter Sarsgaard) an animal protector. Peggy’s sad and grief is overwhelming, and anybody, apparently, does not understand, how the death of the Pencil has wounded her. Some time later Newt suggests her to bring and grow another dog. Unfortunately, this new dog is not like forceful Pencil. This dog is cruel and violent and Newt wanted to help Peggy to retrain this abused dog, using his methods. Peggy starts to spend a lot of time with the Newt and it becomes fast influencing his vegetarianism and activity to animals. She is felling in love with him. Newt is not a married person and can only have meaningful relationships with dogs.
Communicating with Newt, Peggy understood her future way of life and she is quickly becoming an Animal Activist Fascist. She mocks at everyone in acceptance of the dogs even using "unethical" methods. Although her sister-in-law wears fur and her friends aren’t vegetarian, they eat meat.
Peggy is on the fast rate to crazytown and in some time loses everything.
Writer and director Mike White has written remarkable characters and you can keep an eye on the supporting actors and how they are enjoying the original script. All the actors are tremendous, especially Shannon. She has the comical role supporting the conducting actress. Shannon shows a moving and fair work in Year of the Dog. Peggy is a good and honest person but when Newt turns her down, you can see how she is damaged and injured, and what it means to her broken hopes for a boyfriend. When these things are happening with Peggy, hair of Shannon is confused and unwashed, and she does not carry any cosmetics. A few actresses would be resolved with a kind of a wart of a close up and all shots which Shannon takes out.
Mike White (who has written and has directed School of Rock) is very gifted person. There is pathos in his work which certainly resounds here, whether you are the fan and amateur of dogs or not. This is the movie with it’s own charm and it has heart and soul. And one more thing, if you are not a dog lover, there are some moments which confirm, that dogs really destroy a material and without Millan's management, it is possible for the dog to mock at you.
