A prime example of this is that you'll type a url into the address bar, and instead of taking you to the site you want to go to, you'll be directed somewhere else.
In most cases, spyware is easy to locate: however, there are cases when the hacker or writer of the spyware software can overwrite programs that are normally supposed to be on your computer. Hence, you'll never know they are there.
